For a number of years the Kansas City Public Library produced a series called Meet the Past in which executive director Crosby Kemper III interviewed notable historical figures (portrayed by local actors), most of whom had some kind of connection to Kansas City. At times the programs were also filmed by local PBS affiliate KCPT to air on television. The series won several regional Emmy Awards for interview/discussion program.

In 2016 the series appeared more frequently on KCPT, and with this change offered an opportunity for an identity refresh. Since the series had been in place long before I began working at the Library, there were existing graphics that had been used to promote Meet the Past programs in the Library's print and digital marketing. One of the goals of he identity revision was to give the series a more contemporary appearance; i selected a new typeface family to give the primary mark with clean, scale-able properties, introduced some clock/time iconography to emphasize the "past" theme, and introduced more texture and color to designs.

These are examples of the title graphics that appeared at the beginning of the TV program; each episode's featured subject (and the performer portraying that person) would have a customized graphic with the actual photo of the historical figure. The Library also typically offered suggested reading related to the subject, and episodes often concluded with a graphic promoting a book or reading list available at the Library.
